AYROC orienteering activity on Saturday 17th December 2022 at 11.00 am at Shewalton Wood.

The venue is the Shewlaton wildlife reserve in Irvine, courtesy of the Scottish Wildlife trust. The visitor car park is behind the UPM Irvine paper mill in Meadowhead Road, at grid reference NS337356 and post code KA11 5BJ. As it will be a Saturday morning the car park is likely to be busy with dog walkers. If that is the case, please find a safe place to park in the streets of the surrounding industrial area or use the nearest corner of the paper mill car park, which is signposted for visitors. We will have a vehicle in the wildlife reserve car park for map collection, download and first aid.
While most of the reserve is rough and very marshy with little contour detail, the courses are runnable.
There will be electronic timing at start and finish with simple bamboo canes marked with hazard tape at the control sites. There will be two courses, Orange and Green. If you would like the confirmation of a beeping noise at the control,we have organised Maprun codes for both courses which you can access if you have Maprun installed on your phone; the access code numbers will be written on the maps. You will be able to download the details on the day using the Maprun Checksites function. Using Maprun will be subject to the usual vagaries of GPS use. If you don’t have Maprun already on your phone then just go for the bamboo canes; there won’t be numbers or clippers on the canes, just reporting whether you found the cane is good enough.
Whether or not you choose to use Maprun we need you to punch start, finish and download with the SI timing kit, so that we comply with BOF rules (we need a record of starters and finishers, hopefully matching).
