Event Details
The next AYROC event will take place at Glen Gaw, Loch Doon, Dalmellington on Saturday 29th November 2025 from 11.00.
The map covers a moorland around Loch Doon which is rich in contour features. In the area which will be used, Glen Gaw runs south east to north west and the River Doon lies to the west. There are few paths but there are line features such as walls, fences and power lines. Being a moorland the ground is very wet with small burns and marshland.

The map is on a scale of 1:7500 with 5m contours on A4 waterproof paper. This was surveyed and cartographed by Ayromaps in 2006 with revisions in 2013 and 2025.
Results will be on the AYROC website and the BOF website.
First Aid will be available from an AYROC First Aider at the Download car. The nearest hospital is Ayr University Hospital, Dalmellington Road, Ayr, which is due west on the A713.
Unfortunately the toilets at the Roundhouse cafe have not been reopened since the cafe closed. Therefore it will be necessary to use toilets on route to Glen Gaw.
There are cafes in Dalmellington.
Please bring no dogs because this is a sheep moor.
Please fill in an Entry form for each person, link below.
Safety Notes
Do not frighten the animals.
Do not climb the walls.
Be careful of cars on the road.
Stay away from the big cliffs above the river on the west of the map.
If you have to climb a gate use the hinge end. Leave all gates as you find them.
The ground is wet. There are holes and ditches hidden in the long grass.
Dry socks and shoes will definitely be needed.
If the weather is poor you will need light weight waterproofs.
There is very little shelter on the moor so, in poor weather, you might have to shelter in cars. The car parking is strung out a bit along the road.
Closing date for Entries is Thursday 27th November 2025 at 10.30pm but it would be good if you can enter earlier and as soon as possible as our club printers are going on holiday.
