AYROC orienteering activity on Saturday 16th August 2025 at 11.00 at Dean Park, Kilmarnock.
There will be a 3.3km Course and a 2.9km Course. Each of the courses can be done as a map memory course or using a map. There will also be a yellow course(1.6km).

Event Details
The first AYROC orienteering activity after the summer break will be on Saturday 16th August 2025 at 11.00 at Dean Park, Kilmarnock.
The training focus is on simplifying the map. There will be a 3.3km Course which has steep climbs and a 2.9km course which does not have the climbs. Each of them can be done as a map memory course or using a map. There will also be a yellow course(1.6km).
Dean Castle Country Park is a 200-acre rural valley park with woodland paths, open grass areas, play areas and tearoom, around a 14th century castle museum.
From the A77 the park is approached via the B7038, Glasgow Road then take Dean Road and left into the car park. (This may be busy because there is often football and the Parkrun on a Saturday morning) Buses can be taken from the centre of Kilmarnock along Glasgow Road to the end of Dean Road which is then a short walk to the park entrance.

There is a cafe at the Visitor Centre and also at the Kiosk both of which are open between 9.30 and 3.30 and provide Toilets.
Orienteers take part at their own risk. A risk assessment will have been carried out however the following should be noted. Care should be taken underfoot as there are uneven paths and there could be mud in places. Dean Park is popular so there will be many other users and consideration should be given to them, including dog walkers. First Aid will be available from one of AYROC's members who has First Aid training.
