The next AYROC Activity will take place on Saturday 1st October 2022 at 11.00am at Dean Castle Country Park.

The AYROC Activity session is for club members and anyone wanting an introduction to Orienteering.

A series of short butterfly loops will be available, starting at Yellow standard and getting progressively more technical. This is a good format for new orienteers and juniors.

There will also be a line course for orienteers wanting more of a challenge. Follow the line on the map. The controls are somewhere along it.

Please complete the Google form below to enter, one per person.

Dean Castle Country Park is a 200-acre rural valley park with woodland paths, open grass areas, play areas and tearoom, around a 14th century castle museum.

From the A77 the park is approached via the B7038, Glasgow Road then take Dean Road and left into the car park. (This may be busy because there is often football and the Parkrun on a Saturday morning) Buses can be taken from the centre of Kilmarnock along Glasgow Road to the end of Dean Road which is then a short walk to the park entrance.

There is a cafe at the Visitor Centre and also at the Kiosk both of which are open between 9.30 and 3.30 and provide Toilets.

Orienteers take part at their own risk. A risk assessment will have been carried out however the following should be noted. Care should be taken underfoot as there are uneven paths and there could be mud in places. Dean Park is popular so there will be many other users and consideration should be given to them, including dog walkers. Work is/has been carried out on the tarmac roads recently and this may require certain roads to be avoided.

For those interested in improving their Orienteering skills there will be instruction available 30mins before the start. Please specify on the Google form if you wish to take part in this.

We look forward to seeing some of you on Saturday.
