AYROC's next orienteering event will be at Loch Doon at 11.00 on Saturday 18th April 2026. There will be the following courses; Blue 5.1km, Green 3.9km, Short Green 3.0km, Orange 2.9km, Yellow 1.9km. The map covers a moorland around Loch Doon which is rich in contour features. In the area which will be used. There are few paths but there are line features such as walls, fences and power lines. Being a moorland the ground is very wet with small burns and marshland. Grid Reference NS 476 013 Postcode: KA6 7QE Lat/Lon: 55.281932/-4.4003463 What3Words simulator.include.troubles Loch Doon can be approached from the A77 then A713, driving south through Dalmellington until a turn off to the right for Loch Doon. From the south again take the A713, turning left to the road to Loch Doon. After approximately 2.5miles The Roundhouse/Dam will be reached. Parking will be on the road by the Roundhouse/Dam. The registration/download will take place in a car. The map is on a scale of 1:7500 with 5m contours on A4 waterproof paper. This was surveyed and cartographed by Ayromaps in 2006 with revisions in 2013 and 2025. Results will be on the AYROC website and the BOF website. First Aid will be available from an AYROC First Aider at the Download car. The nearest hospital is Ayr University Hospital, Dalmellington Road, Ayr, which is due west on the A713. Unfortunately, the toilets at the Roundhouse cafe have not been reopened since the cafe closed, therefore it will be necessary to use toilets on route. There are cafes in Dalmellington. Please bring no dogs because this is a sheep moor and there will be lambs. Do not climb the walls. Be careful of cars on the road. The ground is wet. There are holes and ditches hidden in the long grass. Dry socks and shoes will definitely be needed. If the weather is poor you will need light weight waterproofs. There is very little shelter on the moor so, in poor weather, you might have to shelter in cars.
