Please share vehicles wherever possible. Parking will be at :- https://www.lochdooncaravanandcampingpark.com/

Loch Doon Dalmellington KA6 7QE

The event will be signposted from the A713 approximately 2km South of Dalmellington and can be approached from either direction.

Turn onto the minor road signposted “Galloway Forest Park, Loch Doon & Castle, Ness Glen & Carrick Forest Drive”. Please note the Carrick Forest Drive is closed for the winter, so approach or departure via this route is not possible.

Follow this road for just under 5km. Please take care, the road is narrow in places and verges soft. Please use passing places, give way if necessary and look out for the many blind corners! Turn right into the caravan park.

Please follow Parking Marshalls guidance and park considerately. There will be a one-way system in operation with entry via the top gate and exit via the lower one. If the Parking area becomes full, please park considerately on the minor road running alongside Loch Doon.

Please be aware parking space here is limited.

Please drop £1 in the bucket at registration for the caravan park parking.

The site have kindly offered the use of their facilities free of charge, including the opportunity for campervans/motorhomes to stay overnight on Saturday prior to the event.

If you wish to do so, please email the Organiser, Phil Smith, in advance. A £5 donation is suggested which will go to this small Community run facility. There should be electric hook up with two Portaloos but come prepared to be self sufficient. Please be prepared to make space for car parking the following day by parking sensibly on your pitch.

Safety, Clothing & First Aid

A comprehensive risk assessment has been carried out by the organiser, but participants take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety during the event. Wearing full leg covering and carrying a safety whistle are strongly recommended. If the weather forecast for the event is poor bringing a lightweight waterproof jacket for running in is strongly recommended. If you have personal medical concerns carry information about your medical condition and identity on your person in such a way as can be easily found by a First Aider."There will be a First Aid Tent at Registration along with qualified First Aiders at the main start. . There is a Defibrillator available at the Public Toilets next to the Roundhouse Café (helpers at the finish are there to assist with its deployment if necessary.)

There are steep crags above Ness Glen and competitors on the Orange and Light Green Courses should not stray from the obvious path above them on the latter part of their course.

The Yellow course has white stakes with red tape between controls 4 to 6.

The route back from the finish follows a minor road running alongside Loch Doon. Traffic is generally light but may be travelling quite fast. Please keep to the right thus avoiding the need to cross the road. Please either supervise young children or make them aware of this important safety information.

Please be considerate of other users - the area is a popular recreation area for walkers/cyclists etc.

Scale: 1:10,000

Maps for the Yellow course should be collected from Registration.

Terrain

Please be aware that the terrain and ground vegetation is hard going in places.

Open hillside with intricate contours and wonderful views, Loch Doon has been used for the Scottish Championships in the past. This event includes a fabulous area to the West (Glenmount Hill) which has only been visited by the longest courses in past events, so will be entirely new to most competitors.

For route choice decision making, competitors should note that the flatter areas with networks of drainage ditches are particularly slow and tussocky whilst the raised parts, knolls and hills generally offer easier running.

Some of the more frequently used quad bike tracks are shown on the map as intermittent tracks. There are other less distinct quad bike tracks on the hills which are not shown on the map. Care should be taken when using these tracks as navigational aids.

Control Sites & Electronic Punching

Timing will be by SI Card/SIAC. Standard equipment in the form of T-Bars with SI unit & IOF Control Flag attached.

T Bars have backup punches. Code Number is displayed on a vertical plate and on the SI Unit.
