Event Details

The next AYROC activity will be at Lawthorn, Irvine on Saturday 2nd March 2024 at 11.00. There will be both a Norwegian course, where memory is required instead of carrying a map, and an Orange course. Lawthorn Park is a small area of mixed woodland and urban on the edge of Irvine. The area is mostly unkempt public space with some open spaces and some dense vegetation around Lawthorn Primary School. Lawthorn Mound, near the centre of the area, is an artificial hill several thousand years old; it has a legend of being a site where justice was dispensed. Because of the relatively small area and the extensive path network Light Green is probably the highest degree of difficulty available. There are usually a number of dog walkers, cyclists and other recreational users in the area, please take care to avoid them. We will meet in the carpark at Littlestane Hall which is on Littlestane Road, in Irvine, post code KA11 1RH, Grid Reference NS345406, Lat and Long North 55.631121 East -4.6303940. There is a BP petrol station at the big roundabout at the junction of Littlestane Road, the Long Drive and Cairnmount Road. At the BP station there is a small snack bar with a toilet. The cost for this activity is £2 per individual and £5 per family. Please bring exact cash. If you would like some instruction on orienteering, please specify this on the form and turn up 30 mins before the start so that one of the AYROC instructors can provide this. Please fill in a form for each person taking part. https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=DQSIkWdsW0yxEjajBLZtrQAAAAAAAAAAAAO__TufQU9UQzRYUTFOT0FDTVZZTVBVNThKMTIzVTA0Si4u
