AYROC orienteering activity on Saturday 16th July 2022 at 11.00am at Craigengillan Estate, Dalmellington.
There will be Yellow, Medium and Long courses.
Yellow 3.2km, 80 m climb, easy path route. Green 3.9km 200m, medium - hard, TD/PD 4 -5, Blue 6.0km, 280m, hard, TD and PD 5.
Quite a few sheep, some horses and hardly any cattle…all docile. Oh, and some dogs near the big house but in an enclosure.
Numerous fence/wall crossings. Please use crossing points where indicated on the map/course. Please leave gates as you found them and if you need to climb over, please use the hinged side, NOT the opening end! Report any damage and look out for the odd electric fence.
Terrain:- yellow, paths and muddy tracks.
Blue/Green , boggy and tussocky in places, some light bracken but also some delightfully runnable sheep grazed terrain. Splendid views to the South and East.
Finally, parking will be on grass verges off the main drive. Look out for the odd rock or pothole. Also beware the speed bumps on the driveway, particularly the ones that you don’t see until it’s too late!!
Please note the Parking will be half way up the Craigengillan Estate Road, aprroached from the A713 at the Ayr end of Dalmellington.

The map we have of Craigengillan Estate covers a wide area and there is some quite difficult orienteering on this rough moorland.
The usual leg cover and a whistle are recommended.

Dalmellington is approached from the north west (Ayr) on the A713
and from the north east (New Cumnock) on the B741. See Traveline Scotland for bus time table.
