ORIENTEERING from Katharine Melville
Wednesday 22 August
Marymass orienteering proved a popular opener for the season. Dougie Condy
of Loans [Army careers, Irvine] won the Marymass Games in 20 minutes,
beating his partner Ayr's Andrew Armstrong by over 5 minutes, despite
protests being raised. The competition took the form of a figure of eight
course with paired competitors running the loops simultaneously. The format
was used successfully at the recent World Gamesat Akita in Japan at which
Edinburgh International Jamie Stevenson took bronze for Britain.
Best female competitor was Perceton's Elaine Campbell [St Joseph's,
Kilmarnock] who clocked 29.44.
Ten year old Alan Cherry of Ayr won the White course timed at 20 minutes.
Eleven year old Christina Condy won the Yellow course timed at 16 minutes.
