2008 Agm Report

Our AGM combined with a novel event using the SI Schools orienteering kit proved very successful on the 16th Feb. A brisk breeze meant that orienteers did not spend too much time taking in the fantastic views of Arran and Goat Fell as they wrestled with a pathless Beach Park map. Our thanks to Dougie for devising the course. The facilities at North Gailes were superb ..we were given the boardroom for our meeting and meal. Surrounded by majestic artistic exhibits and overlooking the golf course was no place for discord and accordingly the outgoing committee were returned to serve for another year. The past year has seen phenomenal growth in Schools orienteering. We now have over 80 schools mapped in South, North and East Ayrshire, Dougie has been delivering training in Schools as far apart as Ballantrae and Ardeer. Courses have also been delivered to South Ayrshire teachers and a course for undergraduates of James Watt college is imminent. The highlight of the year was the staging of the 2007 Scottish Championships at Loch Doon. The event was well supported by competitors, locals, landowners and showpieced Ayrshire for high quality orienteering terrain.

Although the following awards were made:-

Best Club Junior Female: Lidsay Smith
Best Club Junior Male: Tony Condy
Best Club Senior Female: Vivien Campbell
